The Latino Commission on AIDS is seeking an HIV Prevention capacity building specialist for its New York office

The Latino Commission on AIDS is a national and regional nonprofit membership organization dedicated to improving and expanding health promotion, research, treatment and other services to the Latino community through organizing, education, model program development, capacity building and training.
Manos Unidas at the Latino Commission on AIDS is a Capacity Building Program that works to enhance the effectiveness of HIV prevention interventions that target Latino communities (both HIV positive and HIV negative) who are at high risk for contracting and /or transmitting HIV and other STDs through sex and drug-related activities.  Our program works with community based organizations and health departments to implement culturally specific and competent HIV prevention programs throughout the Northeast Region, Puerto Rico, and the US Virgin Islands. The Capacity Building Specialist works closely with community based organizations and health departments to improve the implementation of HIV prevention programs in Latino communities.
 A capacity building specialist serves both as trainer and as an organizational coach helping to improve the efficiency of programs.
 
The capacity building specialist will:

§     Provide trainings (1-3 days) and workshops throughout the northeast region of the United States (including Puerto Rico and the US Virgin Islands) on topics such as group facilitation, how to run focus groups, motivational interviewing, evaluation, recruitment, logic models, community mapping, etc
§     Assist organizations through coaching sessions so that they may reach their goals and objectives
§     Help conduct regional formative assessments and organizational needs assessments throughout the northeast.
§     Help in organizing and writing  case studies and evaluation reports
§     Help develop/write curricula
§     Help translate materials into Spanish.
§     Provide trainings in both English and Spanish.
§     Establish relationships with local health departments and local organizations to ensure there is an active exchange of information and participation in the process.
§     Write articles for the team newsletter
§     Travel about 35% of the time.
§     Work with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention by becoming Master Trainers on effective interventions such as RAPP, Safety Counts, etc.

Qualifications:
• Cultural understanding of Hispanic/Latino populations and in particular issues surrounding HIV
• BA or higher degree in social, psychological, public administration, or public health fields
• Two to three years experience as trainer on health related issues
• Able to travel domestically in the US, including Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands
• Experience and skills at working with local community based organizations and health departments
• Have excellent written/verbal communication skills
• Experience in cultural competence in reaching diverse Latino communities.
• Working knowledge of Excel
§     Familiarity with effective behavioral interventions, theoretical models, and/or skills such as running focus groups, motivational interviewing, evaluation, data analyses, Quality Assurance, etc.
§     Able to start immediately.
§     Fluency in Spanish

Position Description:
The Clinical Director position serves as an integral part in the organizational structure of the El Faro Adult Day Health Care Program (EF ADHC), that is, the Clinical Director plans, directs, organizes, and supervises all clinical aspects of the program to ensure that the psychosocial needs of clients participating in the program are being met. The Clinical Director will be responsible for the daily operations of the EF ADHC including: creation of group schedule, facilitation of Morning Rounds, Care Planning and CQI, crisis intervention, problem solving and conflict resolution, and so forth. The Clinical Director must be able to work well in a team oriented environment and have experience working with persons living with HIV/AIDS, who are experiencing mental illness, substance abuse and addiction/compulsive issues.

MNN's Community Outreach & Media (COM) Department is seeking a part-time Community Outreach Specialist to be based in East Harlem to work approximately 15 hours a week on a temporary basis. Candidates should be willing to work flexible hours.

That part-time Specialist will be responsible for assisting in outreach activities to the East Harlem Community as well as some coordination of media related activities with East Harlem based organizations.

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Outreach to East Harlem based community organizations and residents, encourage/facilitate utilization of MNN's public access resources
• Help plan and facilitate community media workshops, seminars, community forums, screenings and other events in East Harlem to develop/support community media efforts in the borough.  Other projects and duties as assigned

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:
East Harlem Outreach:
• Conduct East Harlem Outreach to carry out specific outreach activities to enhance CM/MNN presence in the area
• Outreach to community organizations and public (in East Harlem) about MNN services
• Attend local screenings/events/conferences to build relationships and establish MNN presence
• Assist in designing, outreaching and marketing materials for COMs events and initiatives in East Harlem

SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS:
• Community organizing or other experience in not for profit, community based, development, cultural and/or public interest organizations
• Some awareness of the role of media within a community development/media justice context
• Good organizational skills, ability to work with limited supervision as well as work collectively and collaboratively

Program Director- Healthcare for the Homeless Program

Harlem United is currently seeking to hire a Program Director who has executive authority and responsibility for the operation of the HCH program.  This includes direct and indirect oversight of all efforts to provide: preventative health services, outreach, substance abuse services, case management, entitlement, emergency services, referrals for inpatient treatment/care and housing assistance to the target population.  The HCH Program operates out of two sites:  123-125 West 124th Street and 179 East 116th Street . The Program Director works closely with Practice Manager who oversees the medical and dental clinics to ensure primary medical care is provided to the program’s clients.  In addition to clinical services, the Program Director will be responsible for all administrative areas including reporting, budget management, program planning, personnel management, outreach and marketing, quality management activities, etc.

Qualifications

Five years or more of supervisory/ administrative experience in a health, mental health and/or social services setting required.  Experience in the care of persons with AIDS or HIV-related illness, homelessness and addictive disorders preferred.  Experience in program planning, budgeting, staff development, and program operations at a senior management level required.

    Black Men’s Initiative @ Harlem United

    Harlem United/FROSTD is one of several “local partners” in NHVREI’s national Vaccine Education Initiative. The goal of the initiative is to raise awareness about HIV Vaccine development and clinical trials among men and women of African Descent. As BMI’s consumers are primarily black gay and bisexual men, our VEI activities will be geared toward that group. The (VEI) Peer Educator is responsible for recruiting/enrolling individuals and groups for BMI’s Vaccine Education Initiative. This includes, but is not limited to contacting community based organizations and groups, as well as online and street recruitment.

    Essential Job Functions:

    Recruit individuals for BMI’s Vaccine Education Initiative;
    Conduct field based one on one VEI interventions
    Identifying venues and opportunities for VEI presentations;
    develop calendar of presentations;

    Promote vaccine awareness educational activities;

    Education and Certification:

    Job opportunities at Harlem United

    Test Counselor:  is responsible for conducting integrated (HIV/HCV/STI) testing services to residents of the Harlem and South Bronx. He/she will ensure client receives confirmatory test, offering to deliver results at convenient place and time of the client’s choosing, or coordinate escort services to bring the client to a convenient HU location. Coordinate initial medical appointment for all HIV-positive individuals. Coordinate escort services to ensure client attendance at first two medical visits. Refer clients to ADAP program, COBRA case management, mental health and other services required by client. Counsel all HIV positive individuals on partner notification. Refer client to PCRS Counselor/Clinical Supervisor for short-term crisis counseling on issues related to living with HIV, disclosure, care, etc. Provide referral to NYCDOHMH CNAP as required.
     
    Program Enroller: is responsible for providing recruitment, orientation, screening, and intake sessions to eligible individuals for participation into the Social Network Strategies (SNS) Program with the goal of recruiting high-risk individuals into integrated (HIV/HCV/STI) testing services. Enroller will conduct ongoing coaching sessions with recruiters to aid them with referring network associates for testing. Enroller will work closely with testing staff and outreach peers to coordinate testing events and/or venues and administer HIV tests when appropriate. The Program Enroller will oversee field service coordination for individuals testing HIV positive, including timely referrals to medical care, mental health, and other social services required by the client.

    Outreach Specialist:
    is responsible for distributing HIV testing promotional materials in seven zip codes across Central and East Harlem to promote rapid HIV testing among community residents. Outreach Specialist will provide individual level HIV education and risk reduction counseling to individuals engaged through street outreach, tabling events and health fairs. Outreach Specialist will organize and implement tabling events at CBOs, drug treatment programs, NYCHA housing developments, health fairs, and other community venues as identified. Outreach Specialist will escort clients to testing locations, and will escort HIV-positive individuals to scheduled medical appointments.
     
    Data Entry Specialist: is responsible for entering client and aggregate level data into various databases (AIRS, ACESS, and Survey Solutions), runs reports, and provides for data errors and inconsistencies. Ensure that program service data is entered in an accurate and timely manner. Assist front-line staff in locating client records. Responsible for the proper maintenance and transport of confidential client charts. Assist program manager in monthly data reconciliation and submission to founding agencies.
